One to one fitness

This method of fitness training involves one client and a dedicated fitness instructor. Different people have different training needs, and therefore require different approaches to their fitness and wellbeing needs. With 1:1 training, the client benefits from a training programme that’s tailored to their specific requirements, at a time, location and pace to suit them. The one to one approach also helps the client stay disciplined and on track within a supportive, encouraging and motivating environment.

How it works

The whole process starts with an informal chat where the client and instructor get an understanding of what the client would like to get out a programme of exercise or physical activity. This discussion may include current issues or challenges the client faces. It will also look at the client’s lifestyle, and areas of their day to day function they would like to carry out better. Previous experience of fitness or physical activity (or lack of it), will also be discussed to find out what the client enjoys and also what they don’t!

The instructor then draws up a programme based on what has been discussed and agrees this with the client. This plan includes the types of exercise proposed and the likely benefits, as well as more practical issues of when or how the sessions will take place (e.g. in the gym, at the client’s home or virtually online). The sessions can last between 20 minutes to an hour, initially concentrate on getting the technique associated with the various exercises correct. Over time, and in consultation with the client, the exercise intensity progresses, in order to achieve the goals set at the start.
